A Tomato Plant Eater?

A Tomato Plant Eater?

Going For A Little Walk
Getting Away
Yea, I'm Looking At You (dear)!

We live in a little town and there is a very tiny woods behind our house.   We've lived here for 18 years and my husband plants a garden in the back.  It's rather sandy ground but we can grow tomatoes, summer squash, onions and cucumbers.  That's about all that grows.  I'm surprised we can grow onions because no other vegetable that grows beneath the ground grows well in the soil.

Last year my husband planted about 30 tomato plants as usual.  I always can tomatoes for use in chili and goulash.  The next morning he went to look at the garden and something had chewed or ate off all the plants.  We had never had a problem before all those years till last year.  It must have been deer or rabbits.  I guess they got really hungry!

This cute little guy was behind our house the other day.  He was all alone and my son took some pictures before he noticed him and ran away.  Maybe he was looking for some tomato plants to eat.  Guess what!  My husband planted them by our house this year.

Seems Like Yesterday

Seems Like Yesterday

May 26, 1984 - 29 years ago today, my husband and I were married.  It really did go fast, as the saying goes.  Now I know what people meant when they said that time flies by the older you get.  We've been blessed and have some wonderful children which I am thankful for.

The sun was shining on our wedding day and now I wish we could go back and do it all over again.  Lots of people in our lives have passed away since then.  My dad, mother-in-law, and other relatives and friends are no longer with us.

Lots has happened in 29 years.  There has been lots of good times.  The happiest days would be the birth of our children.  Lots of birthdays, graduation parties, and weddings in the family were good times too.

Now our daughter is finishing up her college  and is in Italy for Study Abroad.  She will have a double major in Graphic Design and Art.  I can't wait to see where she gets a job.  It's an exciting time for her.  Our sons are still going to college for Digital Video Production and I hope some day they find a career that they enjoy also.

They Are Going Up Around Here

They Are Going Up Around Here

We live in a rural area in Michigan where there is a lot of farmland. The last few years there have been a lot of wind turbines going up in certain areas where there is a lot of wind. They go around like a windmill. There can't be a house a certain distance near them, although I don't know exactly how far it is.

My mother owns land in the country where they might possibly be putting up one or more wind turbines.  You had to sign up if you want to be on the list for an opportunity to have one.  You get compensation for having them on your land.

When we go to the city for shopping or whatever, we go by quite a few wind turbines that have gone up in the recent years.  There are smaller ones and some that are larger.  Anyways, I took some pictures of some the other day.  These were some of the smaller ones.  I'm not sure how it works, but they produce electricity from the wind.

The sky was such a beautiful blue with the giant turbines going around.  The clouds were awesome also, and some of them looked like giant cotton balls.  Along with the green fields growing, the colors were awesome.  The turbines look kind of like giants in the fields!

Press4Kids News-O-Matic App {Review}

Press4Kids News-O-Matic App {Review}

My kids are young adults now but when they were little they would sometimes ask  questions about things they saw on the news if they would be in the room.  It is hard to answer questions about why bad things happen and there isn't an easy answer.  It's hard to explain a lot of things to children, even adults can't decipher why bad things happen.

Making sense of the current tragedies around the world from the Boston marathon bombings, to the Oklahoma City Tornadoes to the recent terrorist attack in London can be quite a challenge for adults, let alone children.
As parents know, children process these things differently.  They may be asking difficult questions and parents may need suggestions to help discuss what happened and address their concerns. Since directing them to the New York Times to read about it or any other news source is not an option, Press4Kids developed News-O-Matic.

News-O-Matic is an educational news app that covers breaking news, sports, science and much more in an accessible and kid-friendly way.  News-O-Matic is targeted to kids ages 7-10  and includes five daily news stories, with detailed pictures, videos, illustrations, maps, timelines and games.

I think News-O-Matic is a wonderful new concept and offers children a way to learn about global events in a way that that may understand better.  It's also reassuring to know that each article is written by a professional staff which includes teachers, and is reviewed by a child psychologist before publication to ensure emotionally safe content.

Below are some tips from Dr. Phyllis Ohr, Child Psychologist for Press4Kids, on how parents can address news issues with children and what children can do to feel better:

1.      When the event does not personally affect the child, reassure them that everything is okay with the people they love and that nothing has changed for them.

2.     Be sure to stress to children that if they do have questions to ask parents, teachers as well as friends. Other children having the same feelings may be comforting.

3.    Begin by giving the child a brief synopsis of what happened by using age appropriate language. Ask if there is something they want to know more about or if they need something explained further. If so, stick to pointedly answering their question or clarifying. Do not add on or digress.

4.    Do not assume the news will make children feel a certain way. Ask if they know how they feel, but stress that kids feel all different ways when they hear important news and sometimes do not know how they feel or do not feel anything which is okay. However, if children are affected by it, it is their own feeling. Reassure children that no matter what they are feeling, their feelings are okay.

5.    If they are upset but don't want to talk, suggest a fun activity for distraction or help them use calming skills like playing, drawing a picture or writing a story. These activities help release any upset feelings and make children feel better.

Sibu Sea Buckthorn Cleansing Face and Body Bar #Review

Sibu Sea Buckthorn Cleansing Face and Body Bar  #Review

I love to keep my skin looking as best as I possibly can and am always looking for new products to do this.  Recently I came across Sibu Beauty and they were gracious to offer me to review one of their wonderful products - Sibu Sea Buckthorn Cleansing Face and Body Bar.

I learned from Sibu Beauty that their products are made from Sea Buckthorn Berries.  This ancient berry has a written history focusing on the aging issues of health and beauty of more than twenty-eight centuries.  I love the fact that their products are cruelty-free and vegan.  Also that their products contain Omega 7, which promotes healthy skin, hair, and nails.  It also aids digestion and may help you maintain a healthier weight.

A little about Sea Buckthorn Cleaning Face and Body Bar that I tried:

  • Cleanses and conditions skin
  • Promotes tissue recovery and healing
  • Inhibits bacterial growth
  • Works for all skin types
  • Contains 100% natural ingredients

When I received the box and immediately opened it to smell this wonderful beauty bar.  It has a tantalizing fragrance with a hint of citrus and coconut that I really liked a lot!  I used it to wash my face first and loved the way it lathered up so nice and rich.  My face felt invigorated and very clean and fresh which was a wonderful feeling.  I liked the somewhat grainy texture which felt like it renewed my skin.  This is the best beauty bar that I have ever used before!

Check out Sibu on their Social Media shown below to learn more about their wonderful products.  Just click on the links to go to the site.

Sibu Beauty has many other products besides the cleansing face and body that I tried.  They sound very wonderful also.  Here is a list of them below:

  • Sea Buckthorn Liquid Supplement For Skin, Hair and Nails
  • Cellular Support Omega-7 Vegetarian Softgels
  • Sea Buckthorn Nourishing Daytime Facial Cream
  • Sea Buckthorn Nourishing Body Cream
  • Sea Buckthorn Balancing Facial Cleanser
  • Sea Buckthorn Hydrating Serum
  • Sea Buckthorn Replenishing Nigh Cream
  • Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil
  • Sea Buckthorn Exfoliating Scrub
  • Sea Buckthorn Purifying Mask
  • Sea Buckthorn Clarifying Toner
  • Sea Buckthorn Age Defying Eye Cream

I am very pleased with this wonderful product and am thankful that I got to try out their Sea Buckthorn Cleansing Face and Body Bar.

Study Abroad In Italy!

Study Abroad In Italy

Yesterday was the day!  My husband and I took our daughter to the airport to go to Italy.  Karissa is  there for a month for study abroad for Art History and Graphic Design.  After that she will graduate from college with a double major.  One in Graphic Design and the other in Art.  We are very proud of our daughter indeed.  She could have gone to school for about anything, since she was one of the top students in high school but decided to go for her passion of art.  She is a very talented young woman I must say!

I think my husband and I were more nervous about going that far from home than Karissa was.  She said she was a little scared but that's just natural, I would say.  She went with 9 other students and 2 professors so that made my nerves more at ease.  You can't imagine your only little girl going to another country.  It's been quite a few months ago when Karissa approached my husband and I with the subject of going to Italy for study abroad.  Kerry (my husband) seemed more worried about it than I was at first.  It can be a scary world out there.  But, it seemed like a great opportunity and you might as well go while you're young.

Kerry, Karissa and Me

Karissa had worked a couple of years while going to college.  She's a hard worker plus a saver and used her money for the trip.  Of course, we gave her some money to go also.  Karissa just got to Italy this morning (it took about 12 hours to get there with a layover in Paris) and posted on Facebook that she is near the Duomo.  The Duomo is the 3rd largest cathedral in the world.  It was started in 1296 in the Gothic style.  I just looked that up on Google.  Well, she told us on Facebook the first part about being the 3rd largest cathedral.

The time there is 6 hours ahead of ours so right now she must be sleeping.  I'm sure she will have a wonderful time and experience.  It seems like she was just a little girl and now she's all grown up!  Wish I was there too.  I can't wait to hear all about it when she gets back home.

NAAT Treatment Repair Care by NuNAAT {Review}

Disclosure:  I received sample of products to review and opinions are my own.  Your results may differ from mine.

 NAAT Treatment Repair Care by NuNAAT {Review}

My hair is on the short side (I'm starting to let it grow out though because I want a change of hairstyle).  I've been getting it highlighted for quite a few years now and I'm always looking for products to keep my hair looking healthy looking.  I never heard of NuNAAT products before but read some reviews on other blogs and was very interested to try them out because of the positive feedback I read.
Most of you have probably heard of acai berries.  Did you know that they are rich in antioxidants and encourage healthy hair.   I didn't before now.  Keratin is also great for your hair and makes it smooth and improves flexibility and shine.  That's why I was very thrilled to be offered to try the NAAT Treatment Repair Care line which includes Brazilian Acai and Keratin.

The NAAT Treatment Repair Care line that I tried included the following:

NAAT Treatment Repair Care Moisturizing Shampoo
NAAT Treatment Repair Care Conditioner
NAAT Treatment Repair Care Intensive Hair Mask
NAAT Treatment Repair Care Leave-in

NAAT Treatment Repair Care Moisturizing Shampoo:   I was excited to try this shampoo because it has anti-aging action and is also strengthening and repairing.   My hair has been  looking kind of dull and lifeless lately.   NAAT Moisturizing Shampoo was my first product to use.  This shampoo was a lot thinner than I expected and not really much lather but my hair felt clean and fresh after using it.  The scent was good, kind of like berries and not overpowering either.  After I washed and rinsed my hair I was on to the conditioner.

NAAT Treatment Repair Care Conditioner:  I then applied a squirt of the conditioner and left it on about 2 minutes, massaging it in real thoroughly, from the roots to the ends.  This was thicker than the shampoo and had a good light fragrance,  just about like the shampoo.   I was kind of leery of using a conditioner since I haven't used conditioners for many years.  I thought it had been making my hair more greasy looking since I have rather oily hair to begin with.

NAAT Treatment Repair Care Intensive Hair Mask:  This was something that I have never used before-a hair mask.  I didn't even know what it was supposed to do.  The back of the container said it offers deep hair repair and is for all hair types.  It also says to gently massage into your hair after washing.  Then let it act for 20 minutes which I did.  Oh yea, this smelled about the same and good too!  My hair was really getting the treatment and it felt great.  I sat in the bathtub and just relaxed, which I rarely do.  After leaving it on for around 15 minutes I rinsed as it directed and towel dried my hair.

NAAT Treatment Repair Care Leave-in:   After I towel dried my hair I was on to the last product.  I squeezed a small amount in the palm of my hand and applied it to my hair, making sure I thoroughly massaged it all over from the roots to the ends.  The bottle says to let your hair dry naturally so I just blow dried it in the front a bit.  I just combed the back of my hair and I let air dry.

The Results:

Before Using NAAT Treatment Repair Care

After Using NAAT Treatment Repair Care

I'm very happy with the results of using all of these wonderful products!   I used them for approximately two weeks and my hair is a lot more smooth and silky, and it feels more healthy too!   This stuff is amazing to me!  I'd say it looks totally better than before.

NuNAAT products can be purchased at Walgreens, Walmart, Sally Beauty Supplies, Duane Reade (New York metropolitan area) and Navarro Discount Pharmacy.

AMDRO PowerFlex Pest & Weed System #Review

Disclosure:  I received product free to review.  No compensation was received.  Your opinions may differ.

AMDRO PowerFlex Pest & Weed System  #Review

Since spring is here the weeds have been popping up all over our lawn.  We always have ant hills all over our sidewalk and in the yard too so I was very excited to try new AMDRO PowerFlex Pest & Weed System to review and get to try out from BzzAgent!

The AMDRO PowerFlex Pest & Weed System comes with cartridges that you attach to the battery operated power sprayer.  There are cartridges for any kind of weed or pest you may have in your yard.  The cartridges include the following:

  • Lawn Weed Killer Concentrate
  • Weed & Grass Killer Concentrate
  • Home Pest Indoor Insect Killer Concentrate
  • Yard & Perimeter Outdoor Insect Killer Concentrate
This system is so easy to use anyone could do it!  Even me!  I filled the reusable tank with water and then snapped a cartridge onto the sprayer. You have to press and hold the trigger for 10 second to flush the sprayer with water from the tank.   I used the Lawn Weed Killer Concentrate for some dandelions we have growing on our lawn.  One cartridge makes a full gallon of spray so it goes a long way.

I like the fact that there is no mixing, measuring or mess also.  You don't get your hands on any chemicals and the cleanup is easy and quick.  When you switch from spraying weeds to pests, all you do is untwist the cartridge, press and hold the trigger for 10 seconds to flush the sprayer with water from the tank.  Then you put on a new cartridge.

Watch the short video below of my husband using the system.

If you would like to try the AMDRO PowerFlex Pest & Weed System for yourself, it's available at Walmart, Home Depot and select retailers.   The manufacturer suggested retail price is $14.99 for the sprayer and $11.99 for refills.

Mediterranean Snacks Fiery Tomato - Review

Mediterranean Snacks Baked Lentil Chips Fiery Tomato  #Review

In the past I had the opportunity to try a variety of Mediterranean Snacks and thought they were great so I didn't hesitate when I was asked to review their latest flavor of lentil chips....Fiery Tomato!

I am one who loves spicy foods, but not too overly spicy.  Mediterranean Fiery Tomato Lentil Chips were the snack that tickled my fancy!  I couldn't wait to try them.

These unique and tasty chips are all natural, gluten-free and made from high protein, nutricious lentils, garbanzo and adzuki beans.

Can you guess that I liked them a lot!  Yes I did!  They have a wonderful flavor that is yummy and a great blend of spices.  They weren't overly spicy either.  I shared them with my family and everyone agreed how good they are!

Check out Mediterranean Snack on Facebook, follow them on TwitterPinterest, and Instagram.

They are having a contest right now and you could win over $300 in prizes.  You have to take a photo of yourself with your favorite Mediterranean Snack so check it out here!
